The MTA has a long-standing programme of activities to engage with the next generation of engineers and support industry to inspire and engage them on their journey into Engineering. The MTA has done this through its outreach activities including the TDI challenge and MACH Education & Development Zone. Over the years The MTA has supported thousands of young people to learn and be inspired by the opportunities available in Engineering.
The MTA Education trust has for many years supported businesses to recruit apprentices and develop their work force through its grants.
The MTA proposes to continue with the current offer and further support engineering, manufacturing and manufacturing technology employers/businesses and take these opportunities along with a range of new activities out to communities in England & Wales making them more accessible to industry and those intending to be a part of the engineering community. The MTA recognises that the industry can benefit from support to engage with young people, those transitioning into the sector such as our Armed Forces Leavers, those returning after a career break. To achieve this the MTA has decided to apply to the charities commission to change the objects of the MTA Education Trust. These changes will enable more flexibility to support a wider range of people that otherwise may not receive the support to be a part of the engineering community in England & Wales.
The MTA Education Charity objects are:
To promote the higher or further education and training of persons engaged in or associated with or intending to be engaged in the engineering, manufacturing, machinery and machine tool industries and the relief of poverty of persons in those industries and the relatives or dependents of such persons.
The MTA Charity Objects proposed changes are:
To inspire and encourage young people and adults to enter, re-enter, transfer and develop a career in science, technology, art, engineering and maths within national and local engineering, manufacturing and manufacturing technology employers/businesses through industry led activities, education, training, and support and the relief of poverty of persons in those industries and the relatives or dependents of such persons.
As part of the process the MTA as trustees are required to carry out a process of public consultation. We invite you to express your views of these changes. Please email education@mta.org.uk
