UK starts dispute process over Horizon Europe
Foreign secretary Liz Truss this week launched formal dispute resolution proceedings with the EU over the way it has frozen the UK out of Horizon Europe and other important research and innovation programmes.
The European Commission has been blocking UK participation due to the stand-off over the Northern Ireland Protocol, over which it started legal proceedings two months ago. The exclusion of the UK from Horizon Europe has caused great alarm among UK researchers. Their colleagues in the EU have also called for the block to be lifted.
The UK has ear-marked £17 billion to Horizon Europe (source: Financial Times), a seven year, Euro 100 billion project.
