Jack Semple, Secretary of EAMA has drawn our attention to a new online portal for accessing grants from central government; you can find out more about this through the story below. Another note from Jack includes an article where we have been asked by the Department for Business & Trade to circulate a survey from the Home Office. It is regarding the role of Responsible persons under the Fire Safety Order 2005 – there is more information on this in the article below.

Jack Semple, Secretary of EAMA attend an event organised by Onward (a centre-right think tank) at which the industry minister Nus Ghani spoke about both the importance of the manufacturing sector and its lack of a “sexy image”.  In the article below, he reports on the event and adds some comments on what the Minister had to say.

This week’s economic news article is all about May;  we report on the UK manufacturing output and GDP figures, the industrial production figures for Europe and the latest US market trends for machine tools and cutting tools.  For the first three of these, the picture is best described as flat with some bright sparks for capital goods, while in the US, the recent trends of falling demand for machine tools (but still at a good level) coupled with a continuing recovery in the tooling market are continuing.

Finally this week, we still have a couple of surveys open for input from MTA and EIA members.  The MTA Business Survey for June, which you can find at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-jun23 will be closing early next week;  there is a little more time for the EIA Quarterly Survey but we would encourage you to let us have your input via the online form at https://www.mta.org.uk/eia-quarterly-survey-2nd-quarter-2023.

That concludes the Friday Brief for this week! We hope you have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to ‘seeing’ you again next week!
