The European Cyber Security for Manufacturing Summit returns to Munich on 7th – 8th March for2 days of discussions on how to build resilience, mitigate risks and strengthen your cyber security strategy to combat new and ongoing threats. The summit is an exclusive platform for 150+ IT and OT security leaders from across Europe’s FMCG, Automotive, Agriculture, Machinery, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Transport industries to exchange in-depth cyber security knowledge and insights. You can learn more about the summit in the story below.

During its General Assembly, CECIMO announced a turnover for 2022 of almost €25 billion, which is 10% higher compared to 2021. However, with global economies slowing down, and lower consumer and business confidence, we foresee less optimistic developments in global demand in the near future. On the policy side, the General Assembly debated the uptake of advanced manufacturing technologies to enhance economic competitiveness while making our industry digital, green and resilient. Read more on the economic situation and advanced manufacturing in the CECIMO pree release below.

SIITACE welcome you to their second Summit this time in Manchester at the NFM where they plan to think about the way in which we need to adapt and engage in trading internationally. Check out the programme for the day in the story below.

We are currently looking to find out how many of our members employ ex-armed forces personnel or have signed the corporate covenant. We have added some questions into this month’s business survey but you can also let us know via [email protected] if either are something your business does. In the story you can look at further information on the covenant and what you can do as a business to support.

As always at the start of the month, the main economic news is the Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) data for manufacturing but this continues to make rather gloomy reading.  The global total moved further into negative territory, with reductions in the USA and Japan driving the index down.  There were some countries, including the UK (slightly) where the PMI improved but in almost all cases this was only to a less negative position than in October.

Our separate economic news article this week covers the results of the latest CBI Industrial Trends Survey;  this suggested a modest improvement in output in the most recent three months – a decline was indicated by the PMI survey – but expectations are for this to drop away again in the coming 3 months.  We also cover the latest sentiment measure from the European Commission;  this item also covers the latest results from their biannual investment survey and, in the circumstances, these make surprisingly positive reading even if the growth rates have been scaled back somewhat from the April survey.  This article also takes a look at the latest information on R&D spending in the UK based on data published by the ONS.

Finally, the November edition of the MTA Business Survey is underway and this month has a couple of extra questions about the Armed Forces Covenant (see also the separate piece in this edition of the Friday Brief).  You can find the questionnaire at www.mta.org.uk/mta-business-survey-nov22 and we hope that as many of you as possible can spare a couple of minutes to give us your feedback to help us build an overview of the manufacturing technology sector as we approach the end of the year.

That concludes the Friday Brief for this week! Have a great weekend all!
