Ahead of the announcement on Monday of our new Prime Minister, Jack Semple, Secretary of EAMA (of which MTA is a member) has taken a look at the issues facing the new incumbent of 10 Downing Street.
He shares the widely held view that Liz Truss will win the ballot of Conservative Party members and be announced as the new party leader and, therefore, the person who Her Majesty The Queen will invite to replace Boris Johnson when he formally resigns from the post next Tuesday.
As well as the obvious topics of the energy and cost of living crisis, the attached file covers the issue of tax cuts which has been a clear part of her campaign and one of the key areas of disagreement with Rishi Sunak. He also takes a wider look at issues of importance to companies in the Engineering sector including reversing the decline in UK manufacturing, levelling up, net zero, trade (other than with the EU), deregulation and regulatory divergence from the EU and UKCA.
He concludes with various comments about Liz Truss but notes that the things she has said in an effort to get elected as party leader may not survive the reality of government policies to run the country in a time of crisis.
