Filtermist Strengthens Dust and Fume Division with Return of Two Industry Experts

Filtermist is delighted to announce a significant boost to its dust and fume division with the return of two highly experienced former Dustcheck employees, Dave Clarkson and John Osman. Both Dave and John bring a wealth of specialist knowledge in dust and fume extraction, bolstering Filtermist’s commitment to protecting workers from the harmful effects of airborne dust exposure.

Dave Clarkson, now Technical Sales Support Lead, originally worked at Dustcheck from 2013 to 2015, while John Osman, now serving as Technical Applications Engineer, was part of Dustcheck from 2015 to 2019. Both played vital roles in the company prior to its acquisition by Filtermist in 2017. With years of hands-on industry experience, they are both well-respected among colleagues and customers alike.

Jo Morris, Filtermist’s Commercial Director, welcomed Dave and John’s return, commenting: "Filtermist has grown its presence in the dust control sector significantly since entering the market with the acquisition of MultiFan Systems in 2016, followed by Dustcheck in 2017, Dust Control Solutions in 2018, and the DCS Group in 2019.”

Heller becomes latest Tier 1 member of the AMRC

At the recent AMB 2024 exhibition in Stuttgart (10th - 14th September), Matthew Farnsworth, Commercial Director at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) (www.amrc.co.uk), located in Rotherham, UK, announced that 4- and 5-axis machining centres manufacturer Heller has become its latest Tier 1 member.

The German-owned machine tool company has numerous factories including one in Redditch, UK (https://uk.heller.biz), where in excess of 300 four- and five-axis machining centres are built on two assembly flow lines for global markets. More than 150 employees work at the machining and manufacturing facility, providing unparalleled machine tool solutions, service and support.

As part of the agreement with the AMRC, a Heller F 6000 5-axis mill-turn horizontal machining centre (HMC) will be installed in the Rotherham centre in June 2025 to further the development of aerospace-related applications, especially those involving the machining of titanium structural and aero engine components. Digitalisation, automation and alleviation of the skills shortage prevalent in engineering and manufacturing across Europe and beyond will be key themes in the implementation of the research and knowledge transfer.

Dr Thorsten Schmidt, CEO of Heller commented: "Our company brings decades of experience from many very demanding sectors, including the mechanical engineering and automotive industries, where high reliability and maximising machine availability and uptime are critical.

"With the aerospace industry now moving in a similar direction due to increasing production rates, our expertise is perfectly positioned to meet the demands. That is why we are delighted to be collaborating with the AMRC, which has been ongoing informally for the past 15 months."

Hydrafeed's first collaborative robot; the technology behind Coby comes from RoboJob. Combining great operational versatility with user-friendly software that allows an uncomplicated user experience.

With Coby you can load and unload round discs, hexagonal pieces and and square or rectangular blocks, so Coby can automate both turning and milling machines. The maximum lifting capacity of Coby is 5kg, so it is perfect for lighter work. If your Coby has a single gripper, then the cobot will be able to carry a workpiece of up to 5kg. If your Coby has a double gripper, then he can carry 2 workpieces of up to 2.5kg each.

You can load plastic workpieces on to the cobot by regulating Coby's gripping pressure to prevent the gripper jaws from leaving marks on softer materials.

X-Files-s Full-Length Magazine Barfeed

A full-length magazine Barfeed, the X-Files-s is suitable for fixed-head CNC turning centres and has a standard bar diameter range from 10mm to 100mm.

The operator can change the bar diameter setting in seconds using the touchscreen PLC. This reliable and robust Barfeed features an innovative self-adjusting guide channel which means that no additional guide channel sets are required.

The Barfeed is fitted with a floor-mounted sliding rail that provides Z-axis movement of 600mm for ease of access to the rear of the machine tool.

The X-Files-s offers two standard options for remnant management. Either rear extraction back into the Barfeed or front ejection into the CNC turning centre.
